How to Calibrate a Cardinal 201 Scale Head

If the box scale on your automated AT500 is producing an inaccurate reading, your scale head may need to be calibrated to true zero. Sometimes but not often, this occurs because the load cells on the treater’s scale were jostled during transport.

To see if your scale needs to be adjusted, check the Box Weight section on the main screen of your control panel. If it does not read 0, your scale may need to be calibrated to produce the most accurate readings.

The following steps outline how to calibrate your scale.

STEP 1: SCALE SETUP

Open up your treater control panel.

  • On the scale readout component, find the letters CAL. There is a screw underneath these letters. Remove the screw and insert a small screwdriver into the hole, and press and hold the button down inside until the SETUP screen appears.

  • Using the navigation buttons, press up until you reach CAL on the screen.

  • Press F3 to enter.

  • Press F3 again, and the screen will say “no.” Press up to switch to YES to tell the system, yes, I want to calibrate. Press F3 again to enter.

STEP 2: CALIBRATING TRUE ZERO

Now, your screen should read CAL 1. Calibration 1 represents your true zero reading, when nothing is on the scale at all. Press F3 to select Calibration 1.

  • To reset this calibration, you must change all of the 9s to 0s. To do this, press F2 to change the first number, then press F1 to move the next number, and F2 again, then F1 again, then F2 again, until all of the numbers read 0. Then, press F3 to move your cursor all the way over to the right again, and once more to enter in your numbers.

The scale will begin its reading to calibrate to true zero.

STEP 3 : CALIBRATING A KNOWN WEIGHT

Now that true 0 has been calibrated, we must calibrate the scale to a known weight for Calibration 2. In this example, we will use a box that weighs 63 pounds. You can use whatever you’d like, as long as you know its weight. Place your object onto the scale.

  • Calibration 2 will appear on your readout. Tap the enter button, then input the known weight, using the F1 and F2 buttons to toggle your cursor.

  • Press F3 to move your cursor back over to the right, then press enter again. The scale will begin its reading to calibrate to the known weight.

  • Once “F span” appears, your scale is now calibrated, and you can remove your object.

To double check the calibration, look at the exterior screen of the control panel to verify the box weight is at zero. The weight might fluctuate minimally, but it should be right at true zero.

Once verified, you are set to go. Insert the screw you removed and close the control panel door.
