What Are Biostimulants?
Biostimulants and seed treatment go together like boots and blue jeans. But just what are they?
Biostimulants are agricultural biologicals made up of naturally occurring microorganisms, plant extracts, and other organic matter that complement a seed’s genetics and traits.
Biologicals work congruently with fungicide and/or insecticide seed treatments to disperse nutrients throughout the plant. This enhances plant vigor and development. And biologicals have been shown to increase root growth, root diameter, soil water holding capacity, microbial activity and more. Plus, since biologicals are made of natural materials, they’re safe for both the user and the environment.
In other words, biologicals give plants a big nutritional boost.

Heads Up is the first EPA-registered biological—tested and proven to improve root development, suppress Sudden Death Syndrome and full-season white mold, and provide added control over fusarium, rhizoctonia, and other fungal and bacterial diseases. It’s compatible with any seed treatment and/or inoculant, and works on soybeans, dry beans, corn, and wheat.
In university trials, Heads Up reduced white mold infection by 62% and severity by 38% compared to untreated beans. In the same trials, it reduced SDS infection by 14% and severity by 16%.
